Nagarkot → Changu Narayan Day Hike (1 Day) | Sunrise View & UNESCO Temple

1 Day

This popular Kathmandu Valley day hike combines Nagarkot’s sunrise viewpoint with a gentle ridge walk to Changu Narayan Temple, one of the seven monument zones of the UNESCO Kathmandu Valley listing. After driving pre-dawn to Nagarkot (≈2,175–2,195 m; ~32 km east of Kathmandu) for wide Himalayan views on clear mornings, you’ll follow quiet village paths and terraced fields along the ridge, descending gradually to the hilltop of Changu Narayan above Bhaktapur. The walking is mostly downhill on easy trails with short ups and steps, suitable for active beginners. Typical hiking time is around 3–5 hours depending on pace and photo stops.

At the finish, explore the Changu Narayan temple precinct—a living heritage site dedicated to Vishnu with stone, metal and woodwork spanning centuries—before your private vehicle brings you back to Kathmandu. Best seasons are October–December and March–April for crisp skies, with year-round departures possible.
