This private, guide-led circuit connects five UNESCO-listed landmarks and living heritage zones: Swayambhunath Stupa above the city, the royal plazas of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square, and the sacred axis of Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa. Expect a rich mix of architecture, ritual life, and local stories—from palace courtyards and museum treasures to incense-filled monasteries and riverside cremation ghats.

We plan the route to minimize cross-town traffic and time arrivals for the most atmospheric moments (morning at Swayambhu, late-afternoon kora at Boudha). Comfortable walking shoes are essential; modest dress is required at temples. Entrance fees are collected on site. This is a cultural day, not a rush—our pacing leaves space for photos, tea breaks, and respectful observation of rituals.

The Five Sites (what you’ll see)

1) Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple)

One of the Valley’s oldest Buddhist monuments, Swayambhu crowns a wooded hill with a gleaming stupa, all-seeing Buddha eyes, and small monasteries. The stone stairway climb is rewarded with sweeping views and a compact complex of shrines where Hindu and Buddhist worship coexist. Morning light and fewer crowds make this the perfect first stop.

2) Kathmandu Durbar Square (Hanuman Dhoka Palace)

The former royal palace complex anchors an ensemble of pagoda temples and courtyards—classic Newar architecture carved in wood and brick. Your guide points out palace layers, guardian deities, and the living-goddess Kumari’s residence (exterior), explaining how the square still frames festivals and daily trade.

3) Pashupatinath Temple Precinct (Bagmati River)

The sacred Shiva complex runs along the Bagmati with temples, ashrams, sadhus and the open-air cremation ghats. Non-Hindu visitors cannot enter the main temple sanctum/courtyard, but the surrounding complex and river terraces are open to observe respectfully. 4) Boudhanath Stupa

Among the largest stupas in South Asia, Boudha is the center of Himalayan Buddhist life in Kathmandu. Join locals for a gentle clockwise circuit while prayer wheels hum and butter lamps flicker. Rooftop cafés offer a quiet outlook on the stupa’s orbit of monasteries, artisans, and tea shops.

5) Patan Durbar Square and Patan Museum

Across the river in Lalitpur, Patan’s royal square is renowned for bronze sculpture, stone reliefs, and harmonious palace courtyards. The Patan Museum, housed in a restored palace wing, is a jewel—its galleries decode Hindu–Buddhist iconography and metalwork with world-class curation.
